30.06.08 Ibiza Report
The island of Ibiza...After hearing so much things about it, both positive and negative, I've
finally made my way over here to check it out myself. As a matter of fact, all of the things, both
positive and negative, came out to be equally correct. There were great parties, legendary
venues, amazing seashores, marvelous girls, beautiful sunrises and even more beautiful
sunsets. On the other hand, the island was packed with tourists (like myself :) and especially
british ones, who sometimes have taken their "party animal" -attitude waaay too far and the
drug offering on the island clearly exceeded the demand - you could get practically anything
anywhere - which for some was, obviously, an extremely positive thing :)
During the course of two weeks and numerous parties at Amnesia, Pacha, Eden, Es Paradis
and El Divino, I was indulged to hear the sets of world's most famous DJs, that I could never
even imagine seeing alive. However, despite the fact of being famous, very few DJs have
actually impressed me musically - or let's just say that the offering did not really match the hype.
One of the few to actually leave a mark was Paul Van Dyk, who played an amazing DJ set with
his mac laptop at Amnesia's Cream - including many trance classics, familiar evergreen themes
and just simply good music in his set. Eric Prydz, who obviously made his way to the island by
some other means than flying, came in with the second place - playing a typical Pryda(tm) set
at Eden with a good progressive/tribal wibe, classic bootlegged themes like Sweet Dreams,
Show Me Love and Prodigy's Breathe and, of course, some of Eric's own old and brand new
tracks. And yes, he did play Pjanoo, which totally set the crowd on fire :). Amazingly, the third
place in my chart is occupied not by a DJ, but a saxophonist girl, who, together with a
percussionist, did a live set with a Hed Kandi DJ playing at El Divino. I just don't know how did
this quite thin girl could keep those notes playing for so long and deliver so much soul during
her set. My point to all this is that either the whole Ibiza party-thing was just very well
(over)marketed, or i just failed to find my way to the right parties :)
In spite of that, Ibiza was by no means a disappointment to me. The most amazing thing, that
totally blew me away, was the true Ibiza vibe, atmosphere, energy - call it whatever you like.
You can feel it everywhere - walking on the street, lying on the beach, just riding around the
island on a car, looking at the sunset, or shared with a couple of thousand clubbers in a fully
packed venue, where every the crowd literally lives with the music. It's this amazing atmosphere
that makes the people come again, and again, or some - even to stay for good. After spending
2 weeks on this island that never sleeps, I feel myself more alive than ever, relaxed, fresh and
energized. Also, I consider myself lucky of having a possibility to play 6 DJ sets at 3 different
venues - which is really not bad for an Ibiza first-timer. To brings things to some sort of a
conclusion, i must say that Ibiza totally won my heart. Now, typing these words on a Finnair
flight back, I feel like I'm still there mentally, and probably will be for the next days (or maybe
weeks :) to come. Or, who knows if I will spend the whole year to come thinking about the return
to the White Island...One thing is certain - Ibiza has acquired a brand new worshiper :)

29.05.2008 Moving to Helsinki
The move to Helsinki is finally confirmed and will be living in our beautiful capital
from the beginning of June. The moments in Rovaniemi have been great, with
LIck! parties getting success among the partygoers and with all new friends I have
acquired here, it is a pity to leave. But no worries, we can still meet in Facebook,
where i recently registered under the name of San Mejor as well as in Facebok's
russian copy, www.vkontakte.ru, where i am under the same name.
26.04.2005 Lick! video
DJ Infekto's last visit in Rovaniemi was totally wicked, as we might have very well
expected. The man rocked the house as usually, leaving people begging for more.

Hello guys! DJ Infekto visits NiteTrain on friday 25.04.2008. This is gonna be totally
wicked!

Infekto will play an exta long 3-hour set with some hip-hop tracks, groovy breaks,
insane electro sound and the groundshaking drum'n'bass sound to finish off the night!

Cafe Kauppayhtiö has invited the Lick! resident DJs to play on 05.04.2008, so me and
Ismo will be responsible for the musical part of Kauppayhtiö on that ntght. Expect some
smooth and summerish house tunes from me and more rolling and athmospheric
progressive sounds from Ismo - good music, in other words :) The entrance is free.
Back from the army + Romance Rhythm mix online
Wazzap amigos! The army thing didn't go as i expected. After being there for a couple
of days, i started to enter a really uncomfortable burn-out state: aggravating heartaches,
dizziness and lack of concentration.The whole army discpline-thing must have gotten
too deep into me, so i decided not to play with my health and "retire" to more comfortable
alternative military service. :P
Anyways, i'm glad
to be back in business, and i present to you one of my latest mixes,
made for a 'Romance
Rhythm
' radio

Hello friends! I'll be spending the first half of the year 2008 in the army, 100 km. up north
from Rovaniemi, in a little place called Sodankylä. However before that, i will be posting
for your joy some of the new mixes i've made. First mix, called "Lick My Funky Shit!"

Summer House Cruise on 03.08.2007
Summerhouse, a boat cruise with groovy house music is here again!
The cruise will start at 21.00 on Friday 03.08.2007 from Lainnaanranta, Rovaniemi.
The tickets for the cruise are 10 euros, but they are totally worth the price. Two Djs
will play funky house music on the shit Dj Wiles and Dj Zanta. The cruise will take
approximately 2-2,5 hours, but the party won't stop there. After the cruise, there is
an afterparty at Kauppayhtiö, where your noble servant, Dj San Mejor will play some

Simerock, Rovaniemi's biggest rock festival is back again. Besides having all the major
domestic rock stars, this year the festival features an electronic music and hip-hop
arena, and i am proud to take part in it. I will be playing a nice summer house set on
the first day of this 3-day festival, friday 06.07 starting from 16.00.
Sunburn, the summer club of Kalajoki (aka finnish ibiza :) has announced its summer
line-up. I am having an honour to kick-start the club's summer season on 30.06 and
other
guests are top-of-the-line finnish DJs, including Orkidea, Mr. A and Infekto.

Summer is coming and some new gigs are on their way and i will inform
about them,
as soon as there is any certainty about the case. In the meatime, lets
take a look at some
events that happened here up north
and remember all

I will be hosting a B-eat-z Club in Oulu, warming up the night's main guest, Regina,
who give their Live performance. Regina is a popular finnish band from Helsinki,
who have recently released their second album, which is selling like hot cookies.
The second album is a follow-up to their romantic, soft and touching sound they
have introduced earlier on their debut album, that conquered the listeners.

hottest electro-flavoured house of the moment, well to my oppinion ;)

The season opening party of the Lick!-club that i was writing earlier about
was absolutely amazing! The night's main guest, Dj Infekto from the famous
Bomfunk MC's rocked the dancefloor and everyone was just feeling it.

20.06.06 Electronic Music Labels
Some time ago i have finished a research in marketing for my university-studies.
It was about brand and image of independent electronic music labels in Finland.
Unfortunately the work and the research was only available in fininsh.
Now, hoever i have created a nice flash-presentation in english, presenting
all the "juices" of the work. Check it out:
Recently i have acquired an excellent compilation, called Finity Essence, which
presents the best trance tunes made by finnish producers in the past couple of years.
Launched by a newborn domestic trance-label, Finity, this 2 CD-compilation is an oasis of
good music and an absolute must for any trance-lover, finnish or foreign. On 2 CDs of
this compilation, called Progressive and Uplifting, we have many astonishing tunes, like Winkie's Whisper, Sundawner's Sorrow, Avanto's Flute anßd Peaktwins' Hypnowaves
just to name a few. To be honest, there were some songs that i did not even know that
they were finnish, although i've heard them before. Fine surprise. This compilation and
the preview clips for the songs are available at Finity's Online Shop.
Sam & Gigi - Bau-au: Another great domestic release comes from the always fresh Sam & Gigi. Being known
as the deepest & most soulful duo of Finland, they have produced top-quality house music
for nearly 4 years. Their latest release, Bau-au is another example of their fine production.
The song itself, been made as early as 2003, has been recently released on Still Music.
As usually, Gigi delivers some perfect soulful vocals, accompanied by a gentle-touched
funky piano & groovy bassline. It is available at some major shops, like Juno and Decks.
05.03.06 Northern Club Spring 2006 Norhern club spring promises to be really rich with different kind of events.
Rovaniemi kick-starts the season with Illumination on 09.03, featuring the best
house-dj's in Rovaniemi-area. Illumination is quickly followed by Discotech with dj Orion on the decks on 11.03. April is also bringing 2 excellent parties: Club Zone introduces dj Mr. A on 08.04, who is definitely one of the key-figures of finnish dance music-scene.
On top of that, you get the GoodShit on 14.04 with Imatranvoima and tons of bassss.
In nearby Oulu things are also going well with monthly Illumination-nights at Susiteetti. HandProd are also hot with their top-of-the-line selections of best dj's, but the real season blaster will happen on 27.05 with Northern e'Motion wich is going huge with
such performers as Peak Twins and Carbon Based, brough to you by Fed Ry.
It seems that only the sky is the limit for Fed Ry, cause later on summer they are brining Miss Jarea in town, definately a must-check. So have fun and see you at the parties!
21.02.06 San Mejor's guestmix on ICAM Sessions I have produced a guestmix for Icam, an International Club & Artist Management
Company, which is going to be aired on their weekly radioshow Icam Session
on Sweden-based Radioseven. The mix features some great house / electro tracks
from such artists as Dj DLG,Lifelike, Jupiter Ace, Benjamin Thieves, Damien Strong,
and many other excellent tracks and it will be aired on 25 march 22.00 o'clock (GMT+1).
Radioseven plays all-around high-quality dance music including house, trance and

15.02.06 Magnatune - A different record label
I've discovered a new and different kind of record label, Magnatune, that surprised
me with its approach to make business. Magnatune states: "We are not evil", and they
have a good reason for saying it. In Magnatune's shop you can decide for yourself,
how much you are willing to pay for your mp3's. Some minimun price level exists,
but still, a track or an album can be purchased for a relatively low cost.
And the best part is that 50 % of that money goes to the artist, so the owner of the
label, mr. Buckman suggests: "be generous". And there is no reason not to be.
Magantue offers you a choice of format to be dowloaded. Thus, you may choose
between mp3, ogg and wav. WIth wav quality you may burn yourself a CD-quality
music disk. And, speaking about CD's, magnatune offers you manufactured CD's with
artwork, which will cost you 6,5 euros more, including delivery (outside US).
If you decide to buy a CD, you are ge the access to the mp3, files of the album
immediately, not to keep you waiting.
The choice of music featured at Magnatune include Jazz, Rock, Classical and many
others by relatively uknown, but still talented artists. For example, i have found myself
some really cool chillout tunes by an artist named Satori. A real enjoyment.. :)

04.01.06 New Year and Video from Dj Gig @ Kalajoki 01.01.06
I don't know how you guys spent the New Year, but i spent it with some
excellent house music. I was playing at Dyyni-club in a small town in
Northern Finland, Kalajoki, which is called "Finland's Ibiza", attracting
many visitors during the summer. Still, no celebrating british tourists were
spotted on the place. :)
While on may way there, the train's locomotive broke down (a nice new year's
gift from national railway company, VR ;) but nevertheless i got there in time.
The party rocked well with the latest bassline tracks and the good-old classics,
like Planet Funk - Chase the Sun & Fragma's Toca Me, escalating to the trance
finale. The night's host, Kaasi took a short 30 second-video from the venue.

17.11.05 Review: Orkidea - A Place Called Happiness Today i've purchased a Mix CD of one of Finland's leading
trance-djs, Orkidea, entitled
"A Place Called Happiness", released by Universal. To tell you the truth, it seemed to me that the good trance sound
is gone these days. New songs don't bring anything really new and just recycle the old
ideas, one song reminds another and good wibe and fresh feeling are
so hard to find.
In this mess of today's cranky basslines and monster-melodies, "A Place Called
Happiness" seems to be like a shining star in the obscure skies. It is full of energetic and
uplifting wibes
that make you feel so good, that you cannot believe it..
A real
happiness, indeed.
The Mix CD opens with several great songs, amongs them Orkidea's
own production,
a track called "Beautiful", as well as a collaboration with Marc Mitchell, a modern
trance-guru, entitled "Eternal Love". Undoubtedly CD's best moments
are also provided by Jose
Zamora & Damian Dp with their track "Transatlantic", and Super8 with Dj Tab, that give a good
example of excellent "domestic" trance sound, a track called "Helsinki Scorching".
A real must have!
Unfortunately this Mix CD could not escape an attempt of "selling itself". In the company with the other songs, fifth track, Tiesto's "UR" (Junkie XL remix) seemed to be like a peasant, joining the 5 o'clock tea with the Queen.
Of course, Tiesto's fans
would be delighted to hear this one on the CD, but in my oppinion
any other good track by a much less known artist would work better and keep the integrity
of the CD, which ends up with several over good tunes like Beatpushers' "RHT",
remixed by Dallas Superstars.
On overal, "A Place Called Happiness" is undoubtedly today's trance at its best.
However, it makes me wonder: "Is that all that today's trance has to offer?.."

I came to a conclusion recently that the next computer i will buy would be a Macintosh.
Not only because Mac i so much more efficient and stable environment to work in.
Not because most of graphic designers and music producers prefer Mac.
And not only because Mac's Customer Support is very good (so i've heard).
I've learned that Mac-computers totally by-pass the security of copy-protected CDs.
Hurray for Mac! And although don't really plan of getting any copy-protected CDs
(i ban them), i really want to see thist white little technology-miracle on my working desk.
PC Strikes back!
After searching the net for a while, i found a descent competitor for my Mac-dream :) Alienware offers a PC, that is every Star Wars- fan's dream and it is available
in two versions: Light Side and Dark Side. I choose the Dark Side..."Yes, Master.."
